Live shrimp & trout bite

Some really great fishing today out of Sweetwater. Lots of specks came in. Lots of happy faces. Good news- we have a few thousand live shrimp in the tanks. We have some croakers, as well. We have some cocahoes. We have some fresh frozen shrimp. So, if you want to get in on the action, come on down. Don’t let the dirty water deter you. They are still catching fish in it. However, we heard from some customers today that Fourhorse is clean. Weather is looking absolutely beautiful for tomorrow! They caught some big, big fish by Breton Islands. Running straight from Sweetwater isn’t much further than going out of Hopedale. I wouldn’t make the run though. They are catching beautiful trout right here in the interior of Delacroix, like they did today. We hope to see you this weekend. Also, shoutout to all the mothers- here’s a early happy Mother’s Day! We are really excited about the new bigger & better Sweetwater coming soon. We have been in a bit of a rut lately. We promise- when we are finished getting this place back together, it is going to be bigger & better than ever in many different way. We appreciate all our customers that stick with us no matter what. So, that being said we hope to see you soon & in the future! As always, can’t wait to see ya here at Sweetwater Marina!

Pictures are from customers catch today!

Live shrimp tomorrow !!!

Pretty decent fishing today. We had some nice trout come in. Quite a few people caught redfish.

Great news!!! 🦐🦐🦐 The shrimp boat will be leaving the dock first thing tomorrow morning. We should have plenty of live shrimp for tomorrow evening & the weekend, if everything works out as planned.

Today, customers said they used plastic & fished on the bottom. Some said they caught them on live shrimp that they picked up on the way down.

Update on the lodge: The lodge is coming along great. It’s going to be absolutely beautiful. We added a back deck, with a great view- a bbq zone! We have some openings Sunday & during the week. Pictures are from last Saturday’s charter. That was the Greer group! Thanks for booking Mr. Wayne Greer. It sucks that they didn’t get to go out Sunday, because it was a high chance of rain. However, it ended up being a pretty decent day. Weather people 🤦🏻‍♀️ anyways, they enjoyed their trip. They said they never seen that many fish in a box before. We are fortunate here in Louisiana- for our limits! It was a great day- because the customers were happy! That is our ultimate goal.

As always, can’t wait to see ya here at Sweetwater Marina!

Wednesday- Friday fishing trips!

Captain Jack has fished the last three days, with a lot of success. They caught 43 trout on Wednesday. Tuesday they caught 23 trout and 20reds. Today, they caught 20 reds. Other customers did really good. The last two days- it seems like they were hauling in quite a few speckled trout. On Captain Jacks charters, they caught all their trout on the bottom. Fishing in 13ft of water. It seems that they are biting better, if you fish on the bottom. So, that is our advice.

Wednesday’s charter was a father and his 3 sons, for his 80th birthday. They caught some big, beautiful reds. He even taught Captain Jack & his sons a thing or two about fishing! He caught the two biggest reds & probably 12 speckled trout. We would like to thank the Imes men for coming fish with us! How sweet of them to put this together for their dads 80th. They took video & send him happy birthday, while cleaning their speckled trout! It was a fun day! I’m sure it was a great memory for all the Imes fellas to cherish forever.

Also, thanks to the Mays, Brazeale & McDonald groups for choosing to fish with us here at Sweetwater Marina Guide service this week.

We still don’t have any live shrimp. We are still working on it. We did buy 200 Ib of fresh frozen shrimp. So we have plenty fresh dead bait for tomorrow. We have no cocahoe minnows.

The weather is looking decent for tomorrow, and it is going to be okay Sunday morning. If you want to catch some trout, I would advise to come down to Delacroix. Seems the trout are being caught pretty steadily.

As always, hope to see ya here at Sweetwater Marina!

Sunday/Tuesday fishing

Sunday, Captain Jack took out Mr. Reed Marine, his son in law, Josh, his granddaughter & grandson. They had a great day. They caught 19reds & missed 4-5 big ones that got off. They all had a great time & said they would be coming back real soon.

Today, Captain Jack took out Mr. Douglas Biggs, his son, Odis & his brother, also Odis. They went catch redfish. They had to come in early, at around 11:30am, to beat the rain. However, they caught 12 reds & lost a few big ones, again today.

Monday- Captain Jack met Aj- the Louisiana Fishing Produce Man. He makes YouTube videos of him fishing, and he launches here at Sweetwater. He is a good fisherman. When Jack met him, he was cleaning another limit of trout. Go check out his videos!

As far as trout, they have been catching tons of specks down here in Delacroix. They would probably be catching even more, if we had live shrimp, which we are trying to get going ASAP!

That lodge is coming along quickly & beautifully. Before you know it, we will have a lodge that looks completely brand new! Can’t wait to share pictures, as soon as we finish. Can’t come quick enough!

We do have some openings that can be filled within the next few weeks! Call 504-342-2368 to book! Come get in on the speck & redfish action! As always, we can’t wait to see ya here at Sweetwater Marina!

Redfish on reds by noon

Captain Jack fished with Mr. Don Diekhaus & his three buddies for the past two days. & They made the red fishing happen. They finished fishing, both days, at around 12:30pm. Yesterday, they left at 12:30pm, because they forgot their ice chest with their food/drinks. Yesterday, they caught 17 reds- then, left early because of the lack of food and drinks- other than Jacks “stash waters” he stores in his boat. Today, they ended up with their limit of reds. Overall, the redfishing was good. Other customers went to trout fish today. We had scattered reports. We had charter captains with limits, some customers with 25-30 per boat. It just depends who you talk to. Ofcourse, there are always those few that return empty handed. The trout fishing still seems to be pretty good. We heard a lot of the trout are being caught in deeper holes- fishing on the bottom..however, they had some customers using popping corks. Unfortunately, we don’t have live shrimp. As far as plastic, we have seen a variety of colors of plastics being used on poles & a lot of Ghost shrimp. Captain Jack has been using clear- matrix-Magneto color. We have dead bait.

I’m sure we won’t see a lot of fisherman tomorrow morning, due to the crazy weather. If you get an opportunity, come tomorrow afternoon, Sunday or during the week. Once the wind lays down, the trout fishing will be even better.

Good news- we are working on the lodge. It is getting put back together rather quickly. It sucks, because we have lost money with the units being out of commission. Soon, they will be back and better than ever..waiting for you guys to come check them out! As soon as they are done, I will make a post -& If I told you that we were booked for future dates, you can call and snag the 3 brand new units!

Hopefully, we will be making a trip out on our shrimp boat this week to catch some live bait. 🤞🏼

Shoutout to Campos Marina with hooking us up with all of the great dead bait!

We will keep you all updated!

See yall soon!

Tuesday/ Wednesday Charters

Great fishing for Thad, Kenny & Will yesterday. They fished with Captain Jack & caught a limit of reds and some fresh water cats. They threw back some & kept a couple. They had lots of fun. Then, for the grand finale- Captain Jack, Will, Thad, Kenny, Gracie & myself -Sierra- had dinner at Meme’s, in Chalmette. They prepared some delish & beautifully displayed dishes, with the fresh fish we brought in. We, also, had some of their fabulous oysters, ofcourse! Gracie ate over half a dozen by herself, at 3 years old- absolutely delicious! Thanks again Thad, Kenny & Will for being great friends & great customers. We look forward to their visits.

Today, Captain Jack took out the Edwards group. They caught 33 trout & twelve beautiful reds. They had lots of fun. Captain Jack taught them a lot of stuff about redfishing, and they said that the lessons were priceless to them.

Tomorrow Captain Jack will be taking out Mr. Don Dickhaus & group. Hoping for a good day and some wiggle room around the weather.

Captain Jack is fishing through Saturday.

We have been having issues with getting dead bait right now. We have a few cocahoe minnows left. No live shrimp. We will update you, immediately, if the bait situation changes at all. Live shrimp should be coming in the very near future, although we cannot pinpoint an exact date, as of right now.

So, that being said- we hope to see you all soon! As always, we can’t wait to see ya here at Sweetwater Marina, the Marina that loves our customers.

Also, we had some lodging become available for Saturday night. If you would like to book, please call 504-342-2368.

Captain Jack took out his Buddy, Kenny, today from Arkansas. They ended up with their limit- 50 beautiful trout. They caught trout in chocolate milk-the dirtiest water you could imagine. However, the trout seem to be biting everywhere. Each spot that they fished, they caught trout. Other people that fished out of Sweetwater today did well with trout, as well. Sorry guys, but we will not have any dead bait or live shrimp tomorrow. We WILL have minnows tomorrow! If you get a chance to fish, the trout fishing is really great. Don’t let the chocolate milk water intimidate you. Fish your normal hotspots, and you’ll most likely catch trout. The weather should be getting better during the week. Which means, the water should clear up day by day. That should result in even better fishing. So, come on down & get in on the action. As always, we can’t wait to see ya here at Sweetwater Marina, the Marina that loves our customers.

Trout before the wind! 🌬

They had some really great trout fishing today out of Sweetwater. Captain Jack had some buddies send him some pics, he took a couple pics of customers ice chest & Capt. Calvin caught a nice load. It was beautiful, until around 12pm. Although we only launched around 8 boats today, It looked like some good fishing. Guides did good with reds today, as well. The customers Captain Jack talked to said the water was absolutely beautiful today. Seems like today was a good morning to be on the water. However, it’s going to be fierce for he next few days. We hope to see you guys, after this weather passes through.

MIA no more!

We would like to say sorry for being MIA, for a while. Also, apologies for our live shrimp situation. We would like to give a huge shoutout to all of our captains that have been running trips for us & all of our great customers. Special thanks to Freedom church group for coming to fish with us this past Saturday! They took out 4 boats. One boat caught 36 speckled trout and a few reds. Two boats caught 2 limits of reds, each boat. One group caught 9reds – which one little boy caught fishing by himself. We appreciate everyone that has been coming to see us, & we hope to see you all some more!

A couple weekends ago, we had some cold, frigid weather that was 10-15 degrees lower than what it was! When, we didn’t catch any fish.

Mid last week, the weather warmed back up, the water cleared up & the trout bite was hot! For a lot of our regulars, this past weekend – the trout were on fire. However, even if you weren’t a regular fishing this past weekend, most still managed to catch decent numbers of trout and some scattered redfish.

Today Captain Jack talked to some anglers that had some really pretty trout.

The weather is going to mess up starting tomorrow. We would advise watching the weather before you come. However, if you are a clear opening with the weather, while the kiddos are off for the Easter holiday, come on down! We would love to see y’all!

We are hoping to get some shrimp soon. We are working on getting Sweetwater back together. We are hoping this will be a blessed summer for Sweetwater.

As always, thanks for choosing Sweetwater, the Marina that loves our customers.

Captain Jack fished the last 4 days. He had pretty good success. 57 trout hit the dock on his Saturday trip, with a couple of his buddies. On his Sunday charter, they brought in 27 trout & 5 reds. Monday’s charter, they brought 30 trout, 3 reds and a bass. Today, Captain Jack and his charter brought in 38 specks and 15 reds!

It is crazy how fishing goes…Today, Captain Jacks trip had a better catch, than Sunday or Monday, yet it was windier today (rougher condition).

Sorry about the live bait situation! We are waiting for our shrimper, in Burus, to get his boat back up and running. We will be out of live bait, until further notice. Captain Jack’s group used 3/8 oz jig head (fishing on bottom in wind) along with the matrix magneto. Little glass minnows have been showing up all over, so those are the perfect color to use.

Great news, as far as clear water, the water has cleared up beautifully in Delacroix. We have clear water in spots that haven’t been clean for a while!

As far as hotspots, trout are scattered from Reggio side to Delacroix side. It seems like the redfish are a bit scattered, as well. Seems like you can catch 2 on each point. Moving around is key right now, since the reds aren’t quite grouped up. Overall, fishing seems to be getting better and better. It seems to be falling in line for the spring. So, if you get an opportunity, come on down & get in on the spring time fishing action!

The books for lodging and charters are filling up FAST for the busy spring season! Between rodeos, tournaments and our regular spring charter customers…the books are getting slammed. So, if you want to make sure you can be squeezed in for specific dates, call NOW! 504-342-2368.

As always, we can’t wait to see ya here at Sweetwater Marina, the Marina that loves our customers!
